Charlene Choi (Ah Sa) @ Tampines 1

24 06 2009

We were excited when we received news that Charlene Choi (aka Ah Sa) would be coming to Tampines 1!  The Hong Kong star was in town last weekend to grace the official opening of Heroic Rendezvous.  She is the ambassador for the Hong Kong brand that carries casual apparel and accessories.

Fans started to crowd around the store an hour before her much anticipated arrival.  We were hoping to catch a glimpse of her the moment she arrived but we were mobbed by her fans.  Here are some of the shots we managed to capture:

How to make your Scrapbook?

22 06 2009

Scrapbooking is one of the best ways to personalize our own photo albums, photo frames, greeting cards and note books.  It allows you to create compilations in albums, such as keepsakes, pictures, periodical articles, etc.

We joined Amy, a scrapbooking enthusiast at UrbanWrite ((#B1-09/10) in Tampines 1 on how to create a scrapbook that will send smiles to those who recieve it.

We asked Amy if she has any tip for scrapbook virgins and she advised, “Kick start with something simple. The basic tools you will need are a pair of scissor, glue, penknife, some color papers and most importantly photos. Be adventurous, play with different colors and you can use almost anything to decorate your photos. Mix and match. No one can fault you for your creativity.”

Ribbons, clear stamps, stickers, brads, chiplets
Add ribbons, clear stamps, stickers, brads & chiplets to enhance look. Ribbons are available @ $11.90 – $12.50 per tube

Ribbons @ $11.90 - $12.50 per tube

If your purchase of loose materials adds up to more than $39, we suggest you get a “Scrapbook in a box”. It  comes with most of the materials you will need and it includes a step-by-step instruction, ribbons, brads, buttons and ready to use templates. Great for beginners and those with a budget.

Scrapbook in a box- Comes in 3 sizes: 6x6inch ($39), 8x8inch ($45) & 12x12inch ($49). Great for beginners, the box comes with step-by-step instruction, pre-cut pieces
Scrapbook in a box and all occasion card kit. The Scrapbook in a box comes in three sizes: 6×6inch ($39), 8×8inch ($45) & 12×12inch ($49).

If you like to use materials and papers to create more interesting style and look, you can get loose pieces of scrapbook papers off the shelves. There are more than 50 different colors, designs and texture of papers to choose from.

We spotted Amy using some amazing tools during her scrapbooking demonstration. One of which is the Pop-up foam double-sided tapes. It creates a “pop-up” feel to paper cut outs.

Spong stickers to give cut-outs a 3D feel

Other than using penknife to cut out floral patterns on papers, you might want to try out pattern cutters. Easy to use and works like a hole-puncher. In seconds, you get lovely patterns on plain papers.

Florance muret punch ($26.65) creates beautiful patterns cut-outs

Another amazing tool we noticed Amy used was the tape glue. Unlike traditional liquid or stick on glues, this tape glue is “roll-on” and does not dirty your fingers. It has a strong hold and can stick buttons and brads to papers.

It is never a rocket science to dress up a photo album, photo frame or notebook.  What makes the difference is the time and effort you take that make it special.

Your style is your creation. Be bold to showcase your creativity.

Happy scrapbooking!

Father’s Day Gift Ideas @ Tampines 1

17 06 2009

Ever wonder who created Father’s Day?

Apparently, some scholars believe that the history of Father’s Day was traced as early as in the ruins of Babylon. It was recorded that a young boy named Elmesu carved a Father’s Day message on a card made out of clay nearly 4,000 years ago. Elmesu wished his Babylonian father good health and a long life.  Although there is no record of what happened to Elmesu and his father, the tradition of celebrating Father’s Day has spread to many countries around the world.

So what are you planning to do for your dad this Father’s Day?  If you haven’t done your Father’s Day shopping yet, you still have a few days to do so before this Sunday.  Here are some gift ideas available at Tampines 1 to give you a head start:

What to Eat: The MUST Try Food @ Tampines 1

15 06 2009

Who doesn’t love to eat?  Apart from shopping, we suppose eating is another national hobby.  In fact, we suspect that food business is almost recession proof during times like this.  We dare not call ourselves the gourmet experts, but we collected various feedback from people on what they like to eat at Tampines 1 over the last few weeks.  Here is a compilation of the die-die MUST TRY food when you visit Tampines 1:

The Mutton & Chicken Bryani at Kapitams (#05-05/07) is superb!
The Mutton & Chicken Bryani ($5.00 – $5.50) at Kapitams (#05-05/07) is superb!  The tasty rice has a nice mix of ghee and spices and the curry is yummy.  Not forgetting our favourite koropok. Slurp!!
We love the coffee served at Kapitans (#05-05/07). The coffee set (choice of sandwich/french toast/kaya bread & eggs) costs only $2!!
We love the coffee served at Kapitans (#05-05/07). Besides, the set meal (includes coffee/tea and a choice of sandwich/french toast/kaya bread & eggs) costs only $2!!  It’s totally value for money!
The Cha Siew Shu (roasted pork pastry) at Imperial Treasure (#02-04) is totally awesome! It has a very nice, flaky crust and has a nice balance of meat and crust. Oh, you must eat it while it's hot!
The Cha Siew Shu (roasted pork pastry) at Imperial Treasure (#02-04) is totally awesome! It has a very nice, flaky crust and is packed with nice char siew meat filling. Do eat it while it’s hot!
Do try the Tempura Udon set ($10.80+) at Manpuku (#03-16/19). Actually, we love Udon more than the tempura. The udon is so springy that it can get you hooked on it.
One of the hot sellers is the Tempura Udon set ($10.80+) at Manpuku (#03-16/19). Erm… actually, we love Udon more than the tempura. The udon is so springy that it can get you hooked on it.  We recommend you to eat it cold than have it hot.
The waffles ($1.50 each) at Yamazaki (#B1-14) are
Try the waffles at Yamazaki Boulangerie Chaude (#B1-14). You’ll have a choice of plain waffle ($1.50 each), peanut waffle or chocolate waffle ($1.60 each).  The waffles have a nice sugary crisp when they are eaten hot.
The meat dumpling at Lou Chung Ge (#B1-K5)
The meat buns at Lou Chung Ge (#B1-K5) are really yummy and cheap (sold at $2 for 3 buns or $3 for 5 buns)! The soup oozes out when you sink your teeth into the bun, so be careful.  Yes, you must eat it while it’s hot.

Let us know your feedback if you have tried any of our recommended food.  Or tell us if you like any other food or beverage in Tampines 1.  We’ll be most happy to check it out and add it to our current Must Try list.

Happy Dining!!
