Yes, a gentle reminder that Mother’s Day is coming up in a bit!

It happens on the 2nd sunday of May every year, and this year, it falls on 13 May 2012! We went on a hunt to sniff out the tastiest treats for mommies this month and discovered two family platters at nydc (#02-09/10) specially designed for the occasion, the 3-rrific Mom Platter and 4-ever Mom’s Love Platter.

The person who put together the platters was nydc’s Executive Chef, Calvin Tan. We decided on the 4-ever Mom’s Love Platter ($75++), because between the two platters, it comes with additional slabs of smoky BBQ Pork Ribs.

When the giant platter was served, we were bowled over by its american serving size!

The ribs meat was moist and the barbecue marinade completely surrounded the meat.

Deep fried chicken wings marinated with tangy cajun seasoning tasted a little spicy and is not too sour.

At the first bite, we instantly thought about ordering beer to go with the cajun chicken wings…and guess what? We discovered that nydc sells beer

Gotta love the onion rings, the breading is so thin and crispy! This is the first time we tasted onion ring slices that were wet and juicy.

Fried Texas potato skins were crispy but rather dry..so we requested for BBQ sauce as a dip.

It is not all too meaty on the platter – You get to enjoy grilled cajun fillet with honey balsamic.

Our favourite on the plate was the succulent chunky seared sirloin steak strips in mushroom sauce

Super juicy medium rare steak strips were exceptionally sweet and would taste good even without the mushroom sauce!

Yes, not bloody at all. The light texture makes chewing so pleasurable!

Included in this platter, each diner also gets soup-of-the-day and a specially concocted Sunny Love beverage!

A highly addictive fruity drink combination consisting of pineapple, orange, lemonade and raspberry juices!

If your mum is a meat eater, she will probably give two thumbs up for the well thought out menu! What impressed us the most was that food on the platter were already in individual serving portions, so the eating process was fuss-free without any slice-and-dice actions

As part of the Mother’s Day promotion, mom gets a complimentary heart-shaped Chocolate Addiction cake and a 1-for-1 foot reflexology treat too! How cool is that!

Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert (#B1-K12) Offers New Tastes!

We were at Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert (#B1-K12) to check out their lunch set deals, but we discovered something even more tempting……they were having a Snack Preview promotion at 50% off for three of their newly launched creations!

Their promotion offers shoppers a chance to try out new items at a special preview price before deciding which crowd-pleasing items get to be featured in their menu. We love the fact that their menu consists of only ‘by popular demand’ items! Your feedback counts!

Spring Trio at $1.80 (U.P. $3.60)

We started off with the spring trio as it instantly captured our attention with its strong aroma and they were unusually loooong as compared to a typical fried spring roll.

Love how the moist fillings were wrapped with extremely crispy skin. We felt that it could be even better if it were less oily. The ingredients were so succulent, it is best to finish this while it is still warm!

Lotus Paste with Walnut at $1.65 (U.P. $3.30)

We have heard of sesame, peanut, red bean and almond paste…but lotus paste? Isn’t that found in moon cakes only? We were smitten with fragrant golden brown bits in the paste, and later discovered that those were yummy fried walnuts!

Although the lotus paste is not as thick as what you’d expect in a regular liquid paste dessert, its unique taste and texture makes it worthy to try. It suits you best if you have preferences for desserts that are not too sweet or heavy.

Mango Pomelo Herbal Jelly at $2.65 (U.P. $3.50)

The mango pomelo looked promising with its fusion of colours! At the first spoonful, we tasted a blend of sweet, bitter (the herbal jelly, if you are wondering) and sour flavours which excited our taste buds. Occasionally, we experienced a tingly minty sensation created by the clever use of mint leaves.

We were also impressed by the generous servings of mango and strawberry chunks. Very satisfied with the fruity aftertaste!

Tampines 1 presents our first-ever Subtitled @ Tampines 1 video contest for our savvy shoppers!

The video was filmed at our new 10,000 sqft wildlife-themed rooftop water playground!

The video features this adorable little boy's exploration at the playground.

Special appearance by MediaCorp Artiste, Wallace Ang.

The cast consists of six characters. Look at their expressive faces!

The story revolves round an interesting object, which lands mysteriously at the playground, and stirs up the curiosity of the characters. It also evokes emotions ranging from feelings of excitement to bewilderment. Watch as the little boy playfully approaches the object and……shocks everyone with his actions!

Tell us your version of story by adding your own subtitles in this video that was filmed at our new wildlife-themed rooftop water playground. Be as creative as you like in subtitling your entry and show the imaginative side of you! Top 3 creative videos will win up to $1,600 worth of vouchers.
